Harbor Cruise For Sightless Veterans

Harbor Cruise for Sightless Veterans

Wednesday, April 27 was a beautiful sunny day for a harbor cruise for 15 sightless veterans from the Long Beach, California Veterans Hospital. The event was hosted by Angela Anderson, Newport Harbor Lodge Veteran’s Chairman and several lodge volunteers.

The cruise began with a morning welcome to the lodge, introductions, pastries and drinks. Then the veterans were loaded onto 2 Duffy boats and 1 pontoon boat for a 1-1/2 hour harbor cruise. The feel of the sun, the breeze and the ocean smells brought smiles to the veterans and Elk volunteers.

After the cruise, everyone enjoyed a ham and crispy chicken tender lunch with all the trimmings and lots of desserts. There was lots of conversation throughout the day since the lodge had some of their veterans there to share military stories and a few laughs.

The day ended with a special gift bag of goodies and a $25 Target Gift Certificate given to each veteran. This was the second year Newport Harbor Elks hosted this event and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.
