Greetings from your Veterans Committee Chair Phil Bradley. In the May issue of the Harbor Light it was noted, we were approved for a Beacon Grant of $2,000, thanks to Karen Roach applying for the same.
The Beacon Grant makes it possible for the Newport Harbor Elks Lodge to offer approximately 20/30 blind and visually impaired veterans a wonderful day on the Harbor along with a breakfast/lunch venue. We are tentatively planning this event for late July or early August. If anyone would like to offer their Duffy’s or volunteer their time please look for the next upcoming article in the July Harbor Light or contact me.
Following are important dates to remember:
June 4th – Balboa Island Parade – For details check our bulletin board.
August 14 – VA Bingo. If you are willing to donate anything, games, new tee shirts, socks, toiletries, please place in the donation box adjacent to the Memorial Wall at our lodge. We also need volunteers to be at the VA Long Beach by 6:00 p.m. with cookies, sugar free and sugar along with juice drinks.
August 28 – Newport Harbor Elks Lodge is responsible for dinner this night. Fisher House is home to family members of VA Residents during their stay at VA Medical Centers. More information to follow. We will need volunteers to cook and clean up.
If you need any additional information please contact me.
