For the 3rd year Newport Harbor Lodge members and some of their family did our lodge proud in the 24th Annual Balboa Island Parade on June 4th. While Sara Evans and Past Exalted Ruler Dan Roach carried the banner, other lodge members handed out drug awareness coloring books, crayons, American Flags and buttons to children that lined the streets.
Driving a stand-out-red 1967 Shelby Cobra GT was Ernie Cardwell, Retired Navy and a Past Exalted Ruler from the Montebello Lodge. He wasn’t alone in his GT, our own Phil Bradley, a Retired Marine, was riding with Ernie. The Downtowner, driven by Jake Allsop, was the perfect vehicle to chauffeur Stan Malkin, Retired Army and Past Exalted Ruler. The crowd showed great appreciation for the Veterans, many coming out to shake their hands as they passed by.
Following the lodge was the California School Orchestra, one of the many groups that the Newport Harbor Elks Lodge supports through our donations and grant programs.
The parade organizers were First Lady Angela Anderson and Membership Chairman Marilee Jackson. Others taking part were Exalted Ruler Sharron Dearborn and her granddaughter Maddie, Drug Awareness Chairman Les Shelley, Diane Morales, Geri Reno, Patricia Litten, Mike Glenn, Chris Keener and sons Ace and Champ, Rick Van De Walle, John Hald and a few others not named.
