GOALS OF PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE
In the most general terms, the goals of public relations are to establish and maintain a relationship between Newport Harbor Elks Lodge, its members and the public. The PR Committee oversees the gathering of information for Lodge events, with potential for positive publicity and distributes/posts such information to appropriate news media, Lodge publications and bulletin boards in a timely fashion.

The PR
Committee works with Lodge Clubs (Yacht Club, Nauti Gals, Honey Dooz, RV Club, Golf Club, Harbor Master) and other Committee Chairpersons in the Lodge to secure and publicize their committee’s activities. The PR Committee generally posts programs and events in the Newport Harbor Elks Harbor Light newsletter, the Lodge website, Elk’s National Magazine, CHEA Magazine, and other local news publications.

We want to make others aware of our good works. The Elks National Magazine and the Elks State Magazine, CHEA, selects stories to print that are of a charitable nature… helping veterans, Girl & Boy Scouts, drug awareness, community assistance, Purple Pig, Little League, etc. Each day, news agencies are inundated with stories about events, people, organizations, and corporations. Most of these stories do not make the paper or the broadcast. The ones that do invariably are items deemed to be newsworthy. By giving our Lodge’s story the right angle, we will improve the chances of the media viewing our story as newsworthy.

GOALS OF MEDIA COVERAGE
By identifying some of the Lodge’s most positive programs and events and getting the word out, we can not only meet the goals of the committee and satisfy the responsibilities of the PR Chairperson, but also:

• Recruit new members, volunteers, or sponsors • Reach potential program participants or donors

• Educate the community about Lodge programs • Raise the Lodge’s visibility in the public

• Highlight Lodge programs that improve the community • Provide recognition for volunteers

If you are a committee chairperson or a member that has an event, program or something to share with Lodge members or the public, contact the PR Chairperson or Co-Chairperson. They will work with you on an article and do their best to get the word out!
