VETERANS

Welcome to the programs of the Elks National Veterans Service Commission! In each of the 172 VA Medical Centers nationwide there is an Elk committee at work. Since 1917, hundreds of thousands of Elks and their families have given generously of their time, energy and resources so that the lives of our ill and aging veterans will be enhanced.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks takes our Military to heart and does a number of things to support them and their families. Are you familiar with the activities of the Newport Harbor Elks Lodge to support Veterans?

The things mentioned above do not happen by themselves, it takes people like you, Elks to volunteer their time and make donations.  We can always use more involvement, would you like to get involved?  There are a variety of ways and means to show your support to the men and women (and their families) of our military.

Want to donate your time?

  • Long Beach VA Hospital Bingo is the 2nd Monday of every month.  Newport Harbor will be there  August 10th, December 14th and February 8th.  We can use extra folks to visit with the veterans, serve snacks and run the bingo game.
  • 4th Annual OC Stand Down.  September 2015 we will need volunteers for food preparation and serving.  Newport Harbor will work with two other lodges to provide breakfast to the attendees and staff of this event.

Want to donate things?

  • For the VA Hospital Bingo night we collect, sugar free snacks, magazines, books, puzzles, new socks, under clothes, hats, scarfs etc.  Twice a year the Elks promote a Christmas event (one in July and another in December) where larger gifts/prizes are given away.  Electronics, gift cards, clothing etc.
  • For the care packages all kinds of items could be donated.  Nonperishable snacks, wet wipes, personal grooming items, i-tunes gift cards,

Anything interest you?

This is a great cause and if you are not already involved in some aspect of giving at the lodge I think you will find your involvement invaluable to the veterans and lodge, but also personally rewarding.   If so please reach out to Angela Anderson of the Newport Harbor Lodge.  My contact information is veterans@newportelks.com .
